Kleefeld Honey Festival fun
Bryce, 2, and Tyra, 5, show off the honey sticks

haystack set up as one of the children's activities in
Kleefeld on Saturday. About 100 sticks were hidden in the straw,
leaving them nearly invisible, and kids young and old tackled
the
challenge of finding as many as of the tasty treats as possible. The
activity was one of several activities set up for children at the
festival, which also saw several tournaments, a parade and evening
entertainment bring the community together.
Arrest made in La Broquerie
sexual assault
Steinbach RCMP have now
made an arrest in a incident that happened at the La Broquerie Hotel
last Saturday. A 23-year-old woman was attacked in the hotel parking in
the early morning hours by an unknown male. The man attempted to
sexually assault the woman but ran from the scene when another car
drove into the parking lot. The victim was treated for minor injuries
at Bethesda Hospital and released. On Thursday Bradley Wiebe, 23, of
the RM of La Broquerie was arrested and charged with sexual assault and
choking to overcome resistance. He was to have his first court
appearance in Winnipeg on Friday.
Longest yard sale set for sixth year
It is time once again for Canada's Longest Yard
Sale,
sponsored by the Eastern Manitoba Tourism Association (EMTA). This
year's sale is the sixth annual sale and runs from Friday, Sept. 10 to
Sunday, Sept. 12. Communities ranging from Beausejour in the north to
St Malo in the south are set to participate in this event.

South Eastman Health will be holding a World
Suicide
Prevention Day event at K.R. Barkman Park on Sept. 10 from
12:15
to 1 p.m. There will also be a couple of free seminars and
workshops including an information session at Jake Epp Library on Sept.
8 from 7-8:30 p.m. For more information call 346-7034.
Tennis courts
re-open Longtime
tennis player Menno Lepp and mayor Chris Goertzen gave the newly
refurbished Steinbach tennis courts their stamp of approval Monday as
the courts re-opened for play after being closed the last month for
reconstruction. The $140,000 project, which includes three doubles
courts, came in on time and on budget.
Anna’s House holds annual
school drive
Anna’s House in Steinbach is holding its annual drive to
collect school supplies over the next two weeks. The organization, a resource centre
for mothers and young children, is asking that supplies or a cash
donation be dropped off at its location at Unit B-11 Highway 12 north. There is also a drop box for donations
at the Real Canadian Superstore near the customer service desk. Anna’s House spokesman Kristelle Stone
said she hopes all donations can be received by the first week in
September.
